I was chosen as a finalist for the 2022 Parkview Healthy Mom & Baby Innovation Competition with Loquet. Currently I am working through Parkview and MATTER accelerator program and will present a pilot proposal to the Parkview Hospital team in November.
DISCOVERY PHASE
The Inspiration
In 2018, my family fostered a baby named Sada Sawadogo who was born in Burkina Faso, Africa with a cleft lip and palate. Sada's cleft prevented him from creating the latch and suction necessary to breastfeed, causing him to lose weight at a dangerous rate. Over the year that he stayed with us, Sada underwent 3 surgeries that repaired his cleft lip and palate and save his life.
The Problem
Although breastfeeding is one of the most effective ways to ensure child health and survival, many women give up breastfeeding due to unexpected (yet surprisingly common) latching issues.

Loquet Branding

Delivery Phase
Loquet is not the same as a breast pump, as it focuses on "real time feeding" (as opposed to pumping and storing milk for later). However, because there is very little out there to compare this product to in function, the closest price comparison to work with are modern electric breast pumps.
Loquet's pricepoint would fall somewhere around the low end of electric breast pumps on the market.

The current options that encourage "real time feeding" have major downfalls in their design.

While I would love to show all the inner workings of my device, I am currently pursuing patent protection and must keep some elements of the design hidden in the meantime. If you are interested in learning more about Loquet please fill out my contact form and get in touch with me!
The Partnering App
This app would help relieve stress on mom in multiple areas by tracking the details of every nursing session, connecting her to lactation consultants who can answer her questions, and connecting her to a community of mothers who can support her.
Loquet offers moms who are experiencing unexpected latching issues the opportunity to feel included and fully supported in the breastfeeding experience again. Mothers are given a 3rd option to feed their child that is not currently represented on the market - one that is convenient, affordable, accessible, and recognizes how precious a mother's time with her child is.
